Research School by Karolinska Institutet and Region Stockholm in family medicine and primary care 2020 - 2022

The Research school in family medicine and primary care is a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Region Stockholm. The Research school is open for clinically active professionals, such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, registered nurses, physicians, psychologists and social workers. The applicant must be a registered doctoral student, at the latest three weeks before the first course starts.

The aim of the Research school is that the students will gain a deep scientific, critical, analytical and research ethical knowledge to be able to conduct research in the area of primary care. The Research school uses an interactive learning with individual tasks, group assignments, seminars, lectures and workshops. The learning is based on the students’ own research projects and is building upon the students’ clinical experience and knowledge.

The course program is in total 16 weeks (24 ECTS) over a period of two years, with two
2-week course blocks per semester.

Call for applications

The Research school in family medicine and primary care 2020-22 is open for applications for doctoral students and doctoral students to-be at KI. The applicant must be registered as a doctoral student at latest three weeks before the first course in the research school. The Research school is open for applications for clinically active professionals with an interest in primary care.

18 positions are available, whereof 12 with financial reimbursement to the participant’s clinic.

Who can apply?

The research school aims at attracting doctoral students at KI. Admitted doctoral students should not have completed their half-time review.

The research school is tailored to fit clinically active individuals working at units contracted by Region Stockholm. Applicants should be clinically affiliated through a permanent position, a research residency block or other position that lasts the duration of the research school period.

If the applicant has not yet been admitted to doctoral education at KI at the time of application, the prospective principal supervisor shall estimate when the admission is planned to take place. The applicant must be admitted to doctoral education at latest three weeks before the course starts, i.e. at latest 7 September 2020. Eligibility

To apply, you must be:

  • Working clinically at a unit contracted by Region Stockholm. Applicants should be clinically affiliated through a permanent position, a research residency block or other position that lasts the duration of the research school period by Region Stockholm or a partnered care provider.
  • A doctoral student at KI or expected to be admitted to doctoral education at latest three weeks before course start.

Assessment

Your application will be assessed from two perspectives:

  • The project – scientific quality, feasibility and relevance
  • The applicant – experience and motivation

Course periods

The research school reimburses each participant’s clinic a sum of SEK 6,748 + salary-related costs per week during the course periods on the condition that the clinical manager (or his/her equivalent) testifies that the participant will be granted paid leave for each course period. During the course periods there will be no time or opportunity for any parallel clinical work.
