Tuition fees at Karolinska Institutet

Students who are citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are generally required to pay application and tuition fees. There are some exceptions.

Who is required to pay tuition fees?

Students who are citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are generally required to pay application and tuition fees.

There are some exceptions to this general rule. For the full list of exemptions, please refer to official information from University Admissions in Sweden.

Students from within the EU/EEA and Switzerland are not charged fees. This also applies to exchange students (from all countries) and PhD students.

Application Fee - Swedish University Admissions

When you apply for studies at Karolinska Institutet, you apply online at University Admissions in Sweden – the national Swedish university application website.

University Admissions in Sweden has an application fee for citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.

The application fee is SEK 900 (approximately EUR 80). You can apply for several courses or programmes at any Swedish university with this one application fee.

How to pay tuition fees

Students that are required to pay a tuition fee will have to pay the first instalment before the semester begins. The instalment varies depending on the programme. Students that will receive a scholarship from the Swedish Institute are exempted from these regulations.
Students who receive a scholarship from Karolinska Institutet will be informed separately of the procedures that apply for them.
