Theme Examination - Anatomy, 7.5 credits

The aim of the course is for the student to acquire knowledge of anatomy that will enable understanding of other subjects within the program and the ability to apply knowledge of anatomy in the context of clinical issues relating to body function and structure, and activity/participation.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, the student must be able to:

• apply basic medical terminology related to anatomy
• describe the anatomy of the central nervous system and the basic organization of the peripheral nervous system
• identify the given osteological structures and describe the shape, movements, range of motion, and stabilizing structures of a joint
• name the origin, insertion, innervation and vascular supply of a given muscle and its function(s), and identify its topography
• explain the macroscopic structure of the organs and organ systems of the human body, their vascular and nervous supply and their interrelationships, paying particular attention to the anatomy of the circulatory and respiratory organs

The course Theme Examination - Anatomy is divided into three parts.

The module covers the anatomy of the central nervous system and the basic organization of the peripheral nervous system.

The module covers the basic structure and function of the locomotor organs.

The module covers the anatomy of the internal organs with a focus on the respiratory and circulatory organs.

The teaching is based on a problem-based and collaborative approach to learning, where the working methods create the conditions for students to take active responsibility for their learning. The pedagogy in this course is based on the flipped classroom concept, where students prepare for each class session using a study guide, readings, quizzes, video clips and digital tools. The teacher-led sessions include lectures, workshops/seminars as well as practical examples and a simpler application.

The course is examined as follows:

The anatomy of the nervous system (1.5 credits)
Examined in the form of an individual written exam.

The anatomy of the locomotor system (4.5 credits)
Examined in the form of an individual written exam.

The anatomy of internal organs (1.5 credits)
Examined in the form of an individual written exam.

Compulsory educational elements are:

Attendance and active participation at three seminars in the module Anatomy of the locomotor system (legs, trunk and shoulder/arm)

The examiner assesses whether and how the absence from compulsory educational elements can be made up. Until the student has participated in the compulsory educational elements or has made up the absences in accordance with the instructions of the course examiner, the final report on the study results cannot be reported. Absence from a mandatory educational component may result in the student not being able to make up the opportunity until the next offering of the course.

A student who is not approved after the regular examination session has the right to attend five additional examinations. This does not apply when the course has ended or undergone major changes. If the student has failed six examinations, he or she will not be granted another examination opportunity. An examination occasion is the number of times the student participates in one and the same examination. Submission of a blank exam counts as an examination opportunity.

A digital examination that has been opened is counted as a used examination opportunity even if the examination has not been submitted. An examination occasion for which the student has registered but not attended is not counted as an examination occasion. If the result of the regular examination is Fail, the student is given the opportunity to take another examination in the same semester. Thereafter, the student has the opportunity to be examined twice per semester in the coming semesters as part of the regular examination and the re-examination.

Examination tasks submitted too late will not be considered. Students who have not submitted on time will be referred to the retake examination opportunity. The examiner will assess whether a student has special reasons for the delay. The examiner has the opportunity to decide on supplemental examination documentation to achieve a passing grade. A student who has not achieved a pass result after three completed examinations may be offered the opportunity to repeat a part of the course or the whole course one more time. This is subject to availability.

Where there are special reasons or a need for adjustment for a student with a disability, the examiner may decide to deviate from the provisions of the syllabus with regard to the form of the examination, the number of examination opportunities, the possibility of supplementing or exempting compulsory educational elements, etc. The content and learning objectives as well as the level of expected skills, knowledge and abilities may not be changed, removed or lowered.

Examinations will be offered for one year after any closure of the course or in the event of a new syllabus.

Course evaluation and course analysis are carried out in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Committee for Higher Education.

The course may not be credited in the degree concurrently with the completed and approved course whose content is the same in whole or in part as the content of the course.
