Specific entry requirements
Passed results of at least 55 higher education credits from The Opometry programme's semester 1 and 2 and at least 45 higher education credits from semester 3 and 4.
Objectives
After the course, the student should:
- the principles of how the recipient country organisation of eye care looks.
- know how different social, economic and cultural preconditions influence the nursing possibilities.
- account for the outcome of the current nursing effort compared with earlier years
- carry out simple vision screening and screening under simple relations
- be able to present patient cases
Content
The course aims to give student a possibility to further understanding of optometry through participate in a Vision for All project. The aid projects that VFA carries out consist in that a help brigade consisting of optometrists and assistants travel to a recipient country, most often in South America, and carry out simple vision screenings and provision of visual aids.
Before the the trip the students get to know the level of health care in the recipient country.
Teaching methods
The course starts with literature/article studies, and seminars. The other part of the course consists of a study tour, where the student carries out vision screening and hands out used glasses to needing.
The course last part implies a presentation of patient case from one or the current countries.
Examination
Examination consists of written presentation of patient case.
Compulsory participation in seminars and workshops. In case of absence from compulsory parts, measures with the course director are discussed.
The grades Failed/Passed (U/G) are used
Transitional provisions
The course has been cancelled and was offered for the last time in the spring semester of 2020.

Course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines that are established by the Board of Higher Education.
