Options in English

For exchange students without very good command of the Swedish language, the Nursing Programme offers options in English as presented below.

Curricular Courses and Clinical Rotations

All courses are full-time courses and require at least 40 hours of work per week. A student can only attend one course at a time. One study week is equivalent to 1.5 ECTS credits (i.e. 3 ECTS = 2 weeks, 4.5 ECTS = 3 weeks, etc). The performance will be graded in accordance with the ECTS grading scale (A-F, 7-grade) based on assessment of the student´s fulfilment of the learning objectives stated in the course syllabus. 

During clinical rotations the student will be assigned to a clinical supervisor who will be responsible for ongoing instruction and supervision. Appointed lecturers from Karolinska Institutet will be responsible for the academic assessment and participates together with the clinical supervisor in the discussions regarding the student's educational objectives and in evaluations.

Curricular Courses

Offered both autumn and spring semester

• 1EE008 Literature Review, 3 ECTS credits (2 weeks, flexible start and end dates)
• 1EE130 Research Methods and Nursing Research, 6 ECTS (4 weeks (course is given twice per semester), 11 Nov- 15 Dec; 31 Mar - 4 May)

Offered autumn semester 2024

• 2XX335 Global Health in an Interprofessional setting: A Caring Science Perspective, 7.5 ECTS  (5 weeks, online, part time 50%, 30 Sep - Dec 8)

Offered spring semester 2025

• 1EE021 Community and Home Based Rehabilitation - Cultural Perspectives, 7,5 ECTS credits (5 weeks, early May - early June, 2024)

Clinical rotations

The Nursing Programme arranges a wide range of full-time clinical rotations in English in different nursing specialties. The rotations may be combined according to the needs of the individual student. A student can, however, only attend one rotation at a time.

The starting date of the rotations is fairly flexible and may be adjusted to fit the study plan of the student. A rotation requires at least 40 hours of work per week, normally 32 hours of clinical work and eight hours of independent studies. In some rotations, students have to present a log book or a written report. By the end of the rotation the performance will be graded in accordance with the ECTS grading scale with the exception of clinical rotations with a duration shorter than 3 weeks which will be graded fail or pass.

Please note that there is only a limited number of places for clinical rotations, especially in the field of geriatrics, and a study place can therefore not be guaranteed.

During the clinical rotation the student will be assigned to a clinical supervisor who will be responsible for ongoing instruction and supervision. Appointed lecturer will be responsible for the clinical area in question and participates together with the clinical supervisor in the initial discussion of the student's educational objectives and in evaluations.

Courses and clinical rotation are offered throughout the academic year (September - June) at the different teaching hospitals and health care providers affiliated to Karolinska Institutet. No courses or rotations are offered during July and August.

The starting date of the clinical rotation is quite flexible and may be adjusted to fit the study plan of the individual student. All clinical rotations require at least 40 hours of work per week, normally 32 hours of clinical work and 8 hours of independent studies. 

Please note that a clinical rotation, or parts of it, may take place at different health care facilities in the Stockholm region.

Options in Swedish

Exchange students with a good command of Swedish or another Scandinavian language are welcome to apply for curricular courses in the nursing programme.
