Advancements in Tumor Biology: Innovations and Therapeutic Insights in Oncology 5th-6th of September 2024

This 2-day course entails introduction to tumor biology together with an overview of risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment of common cancer types 

Purpose and goal
A comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art aspects of tumor biology, as well as insights into conventional and novel therapies, will be provided in this course. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment strategies for common cancer types. Additionally, participants will have ample opportunities to engage in thorough discussions with field experts during lectures, breaks, and lunch sessions.

Employees at pharmaceutical companies working in the field of oncology who seek to acquire comprehensive knowledge about various cancer types, their diagnosis, and treatments are encouraged to enroll in this course. The course is designed to facilitate interaction between participants and all lecturers.

 

Course content and outline

The course is based on lectures in an interactive atmosphere with ample opportunities for questions and discussion. All lectures will be shared with the participants. The course is given in English.

The course starts with a general introduction to the properties of cancer cells and tumor biology. Specific lectures will thereafter follow on the most common adult and pediatric cancers.

Lectures will discuss:
• tumor as an organ
• immune surveillance
• risk factors, incidence, and prognosis for different tumor types
• drug-based treatment of early and late stages of disease
• prevention and health

Tthe most interesting ongoing international trials and ongoing clinical and translational cancer research at Karolinska Institutet will be presented.

 

Course management

Lectures will be given by a basic scientist or clinical scientist with special expertise regarding tumor biology and clinical aspects of different cancer types including breast cancer, melanoma, gynecological cancers, lung cancer and more.
