Student unions

In Sweden, student unions play an important role in university life and are often influential forces at the universities. Become a member to take part of all that they have to offer!

Marskalk at a Ceremony at KI

The student unions offer various social activities such as team sports, choir, theatre groups, orchestra, café, pubs, language cafés, and more. Through the unions, students at Karolinska Institutet are also actively engaged in academic issues and student welfare. Students are very well represented in the decision-making bodies of Karolinska Institutet, particularly the Board of Higher Education.

Which union do I belong to?

There are two student unions at KI. Your education programme determines which union you can apply for membership in.

Medical Students' Union (MF)

Global master's and bachelor's students as well as students of audiology, biomedical laboratory sciences, biomedicine, medicine, midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, speech pathology and therapy, psychotherapy, physiotherapy, public health, and toxicology, belong to the Medical Students' Union (MF). The union has its own building at KI campus Solna and an office located at KI campus Flemingsberg.

Dental Students' Association (OF)

Students of dentistry, dental hygiene and dental technology belong to the Dental Students' Association (in Swedish: Odontologiska Föreningen or OF). The union has its own office at the Department of Odontology at KI campus Flemingsberg.
