Teaching methods

The teaching is based on a problem-oriented and collaborative approach to learning in which the tasks provide opportunities for the student to take active responsibility for their learning. The working methods aim to integrate the fields of knowledge of the education and to integrate theoretical knowledge into clinical practice and clinical knowledge into theory. The working methods are student-activated, and aim to instil a scientific attitude through actively searching for knowledge, problem-solving and critical reflection.

The work-based education is carried out under the supervision of a nurse at the department. It is recommended that students maintain a diary of their reflections, which provides a basis for supervisor discussions and assessment by the examiner. The supervisor and/or the examiner from the Study Programme in Nursing assesses the student's learning using an assessment form.

The clinical training includes 40 hours/week of which 32 hours/week is located at the clinical placement. Day -, evening - and night shifts as well as weekends and holidays may occur. Students are not allowed to compress the clinical training.

Examination

Assessment of placement. Reflect over similarities and differences in nurse's profession and health care systems in Sweden and native country.

Compulsory attendance applies to all the days in the clinical activities. The supervisor, together with the teacher, determines, how the student should make up for any absence.

Assessment of the students' achievements and knowledge acquisition takes place continuously during the course.
The course is examined through individual assessment according to evaluation form.

Under placement, a continuous assessment of the student's achievements takes place. Half-time and final assessment should be carried out. Professional supervisor gives basis for assessment according to evaluation forms, the assessment is made together with teacher/clinical lecturer. The student should have satisfied the requirements of the component parts in order to get a Pass grade in the entire course. Grades are assigned by examiner.

The examiner may, with immediate effect, interrupt a student's clinical placement (or equivalent) if the student demonstrates such serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitude that patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is at risk.

For a Pass grade in the course, it is required that the expected learning outcomes are satisfied and participation in compulsory parts. To pass with distinction course is required passed with distinction results in satisfying of learning aim and participation in compulsory parts.
