Specific entry requirements

Course for exchange students within established agreements between the Physiotherapy Programme at Karolinska Institutet and partner universities abroad. The course is also open to applicants accepted to elective courses at the Physiotherapy Programme, Karolinska Institutet. The ECTS grading scale (A – F) will be applied.

General eligibility requirements for university studies. Specific eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • a very good command of English or a very good command of Swedish
  • at least 2 years of study at a study programme in Physiotherapy
  • basic computer knowledge

Outcomes

After the course, the student will have an ability to independently perform a shorter systematic literature review, that is, to collect, summarize, synthesize and to some degree critically assess results and ideas in scientific peer reviewed literature relevant to a research topic or question.

Content

The student will independently write a paper that will cover a topic relevant to an elective course the student has completed or is participating in, or relevant to a clinical placement the student has completed or is participating in. The paper shall be written in English or Swedish according to the format Introduction, Material and Methods, Results and Discussion. The paper should have at least 10 references from relevant scientific journals indexed in Medline. Length of paper shall not exceed 2000 words.

Teaching methods

The paper shall be written independently. The student will have access to approximately 2 hrs of supervision from a teacher/clinical educator.

Examination

The student is expected to hand in a written paper at a date agreed upon at the start of the course.

In case the grade “fail” is awarded, the student will be given an option to rework the paper. The ECTS grading scale (A – F, 7-grades) will be applied.

Transitional provisions

Examination will be provided during a year after a possible closure of the course alternatively at a new course curriculum.

Evaluation: The course will be evaluated in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education (Styrelsen för utbildning), Karolinska Institutet.
