  • Explain the meaning of voice ergonomics and justify the importance of including this knowledge in medical history taking, guidance, intervention, and prevention.
  • Use questionnaires and instruments for self-assessments, methods for audio-perceptual and instrumental analyses of relevance for assessments and diagnostics of different voice disorders, when evaluating treatment and interpret the results.
  • Assess the need for intervention for various voice disorders, EILO, and after laryngectomy, explain the treatment principles and motivate choice of methods, including technical aids, based on current research and available information.
  • Account for the importance of the acoustic environment, technical equipment, and calibration procedure for reliable sound recordings of voice and speech in research and in the clinic .

Content

The course contains facts about voice disorders regarding prevalence , aetiology, vocal fold status, voice quality, symptoms and activity and participation restrictions in communicative situations as well as about rehabilitation after laryngectomy. Information about intervention for different voice disorders, voice ergonomic aspects and prevention based on current research are presented. Methods for audio-perceptual, acoustic and aerodynamic analysis of voice and speech are described as well as instruments for assessing patients' ratings of his/her problems to be used for assessment of voice disorders and evaluation of intervention.
