Specific entry requirements

Incoming student on exchange in the Study Programme in Audiology. Additionally a good command of English, corresponding to 550 TOEFL scores, or a very good command of Swedish, corresponding to a pass in the TISUS-test. At least two years of study at the audiology study programme (bachelor level) at the foreign partner university

Outcomes

After completing the course the student should:

  • be able to independently plan, carry out, evaluate and document audiological diagnostics and/or rehabilitative measures and interventions depending upon the needs and requirements of the individual
  • be able to critically examine and reflect upon his/her own performance and different patient situations
  • show proof of self-knowledge, empathy and a professional attitude towards patients, their next of kin and other groups.In case the student is not fluent in Swedish and therefore can not communicate with the patient, the student has to show these abilities through a dialog with his or her supervisor.

Content

The course can contain clinical aspects within the fields of audiological diagnostics and audiological (re)habilitation (technical, psychosocial and pedagogical rehabilitation). Planning of audiological diagnostics and/or (re)habilitation, including skills within these areas are stressed, as well as interpretation and evaluation of results and treatment methods. Different information and evaluation instruments are used. To the extent that the clinic where the student does his/her training offers pedagogical support, the student could be able to participate in group teaching and support to patients next of kin. If the clinical placement carries out pediatric audiology measures, the student can be offered opportunities to practice audiological measurements on children or the possibility to auscultate at a pediatric audiology unit.

Teaching methods

Clinical training carried out under supervision as well as independently, self-reflecting written assignments and dialogue with the clinical supervisor.

Examination

The course will be examined by:

  • Written assignment
  • Assessment by the clinical supervisor

Mandatory attendance applies to all days of the clinical activity. The teacher in charge of the course decides how the student will make up for any absences.

Clinical practice (VFU) is continuously examined during the training against an assessment template that is available on the learning platform at start of the course.

Other directives

The course is given in English with elements of Swedish.

The course will be evaluated in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education.
