Course syllabus for Clinical training in Radiography
Radiografi - Verksamhetsförlagd utbildning
Essential data
Specific entry requirements
Previous knowledge equivalent to semester 1-4 Radiography programme.
Outcomes
In this course, the student acquires knowledge and practical skills in conventional X-ray, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound.
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- perform conventional and computed tomography examinations based on referral content and patient conditions,
- administer contrast agents and be aware of their risks during computed tomography examinations,
- understand and apply patient safety regulations to conduct magnetic resonance imaging examinations,
- under supervision, perform basic magnetic resonance imaging examinations and demonstrate an understanding of the use of ultrasound,
- identify and differentiate normal anatomy from pathological deviations using imaging material,
- meet the patient's care needs and ensure their safety.
Content
This course includes clinical training in the field of radiography. The clinical training consists of 32 mandatory study hours per week. The student will perform learning activities during the clinical training under the supervision of licensed radiographers.
Teaching methods
Working methods consist of clinical training, study assignments with oral presentations and field studies.
Examination
The course is assessed through oral presentations and clinical examinations. The student's performance is evaluated based on the learning objectives. Clinical training and rotation are mandatory. Compensation for absence during clinical training is discussed and decided by the responsible examiner.
The student has the right to undergo the clinical training component of the course a maximum of two times.
The examiner can immediately terminate a student's clinical training or equivalent if the student shows such serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills, or attitudes that patient safety or patients' trust in healthcare is at risk. When clinical training is terminated in this way, it means that the student fails the current component, and that one clinical training opportunity is used up.
In such cases, an individual action plan must be established, outlining the activities and knowledge checks required before the student is given the opportunity for a new clinical training occasion in this course.
If there are special reasons or the need for adaptation for a student with disabilities, the examiner may decide to deviate from the course syllabus regulations regarding the form of examination, number of examination opportunities, possibility of supplementation, or exemption from mandatory educational components, etc. The content and learning objectives, as well as the level of expected skills, knowledge, and abilities, must not be changed, removed or lowered.
Transitional provisions
The student has the opportunity to be examined according to the previous course syllabus within two years from the date the decision was made to discontinue the course or undergo major changes.
Other directives
The grading scale used for the course follows the ECTS regulations.
Assessment criteria for examinations, specific instructions for certain assignments, as well as a schedule specifying mandatory components and a list of responsible teachers, are available on the current learning platform at the start of the course.
The course evaluation will be conducted according to the guidelines established by the Committee for Undergraduate and Advanced Education.
The course cannot be credited in a degree simultaneously with a completed and passed course whose content fully or partially corresponds to the content of this course.
