Specific entry requirements
The course has as prerequisites that the following credits must have been approved: All previous credits from semesters 1-4 (120 hp), as well as module 1 in the course Theme Healthcare - Physiotherapy in Primary Care from semester 5.
Outcomes
The aim of the course is that the student will deepen the knowledge of the physiotherapy profession through a global perspective and also deepen the understanding of the physiotherapists role as a leader and a lifelong learner.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Identify and summarize global health challenges from a physiotherapeutic perspective,including the impact of socioeconomic position and social factors on health.
- Discuss the influence of cultural aspects on patient-therapist interaction and communication and recognize strategies to overcome cultural conflicts in the patient-therapist relationship.
- Compare the structure, funding and function of the health care system in Sweden in relation to that of other countries and reflect on implications for the phsyiotherapy role and physiotherapy practice
- Analyze the own professional competence in relation to possible and expected roles and career paths and identify gaps and needs for development
- Prepare a plan for continuous professional development based on identified needs (CPD)
- Recognize the responsibilities, challenges and possibilities of leadership relates to physiotherapy practice in different organizations
- Communicate appropriately in English within the subject area
Content
The course is divided in two parts, Leadership and learning, 4 hp and Physiotherapeutic perspectives on Global Health, 3,5 hp.

Teaching methods
The teaching is based on a problem-oriented and collaborative approach to learning in which the tasks provide opportunities for the student to take active responsibility for their learning on individual and group level. A blended learning approach will be used and conducted interactively via the course website. In the part Physiotherapeutic perspectives on Global Health all teaching, examinations and other coursework will be in English.

The course coordinator decides whether, and if so how, absence from compulsory course elements can be made up. Study results cannot be reported until the student has participated in compulsory course elements or compensated for any absence in accordance with instructions from the course coordinator. Absence from a compulsory course element could mean that the student can not retake the element until the next time the course is offered.
Examination
The course is examined according to the following:
Part one: Leadership and learning
- Portfolio compilation and presentation and a plan for continuous professional development
Part two:Physiotherapeutic perspectives on Global Health
- A written report and an oral presentation
To pass the course, grade Pass is required on all examination assignments. Late submissions of examinations are not accepted. Students who have not submitted on time are referred to re-examination. Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to resit the examination on five more occasions. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination will be provided.
If there are special grounds, or a need for adaptation for a student with a disability, the examiner may decide to deviate from the syllabus's regulations on the examination form, the number of examination opportunities, the possibility of supplementation or exemptions from the compulsory section/s of the course etc. Content and learning outcomes as well as the level of expected skills, knowledge and abilities may not be changed, removed or reduced.
Transitional provisions
An examination will be made available for a period of one year in the event of the course being discontinued or a new course syllabus being devised.
Other directives
Course evaluation is carried out according to the guidelines established by the Board of Education.
