Content

Two weeks continous placement on student a ward/reception (KUA/KUM).

Teaching methods

The course has its educational basis in a student-activating, reflective and problem-oriented working method. The tuition forms vary between teamwork, client care team work, joint treatment planning, rounds, documentation, reflection, individual treatment from the perspective of respective profession and the possibility to auscultate on emergency department and surgery. The client care team has, under professional supervision, responsibility for all activities under its shifts. Compulsory parts that are not examined occur. A written compulsory reflective assignment over the student's professional development as physiotherapist is submitted to the student's portfolio.

Examination

The course is examined according to the following:
The student is observed concerning teamwork ability, independence within the scope of the profession in question, ability to document, ability to communicate with both team members and with patients and family and the ability to integrate theory and practice. This takes place continuously partly before, during and after learning activity, partly via the student's journal, partly at the seminar where active participation is required. Grading scale: Pass/Fail

In the assessment, both student and supervisors apply the assessment criteria of the course.

Compulsory participation: The whole course is compulsory.

Absence from occasional shifts is if possible retaken during the course period. In case of absence, an agreement between the student and the responsible supervisor on compensation of the absence is made.

If the aims of the placement are not achieved, this must be compensated for at the regular clinical course of the following semester. Absence from examinations is compensated according to the supervisor's assessment. The student may take the clinical course twice and be examined six times.

The examiner may, with immediate effect, interrupt a student's clinical placement (or equivalent) if the student demonstrates such serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitude that patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is at risk. If a clinical placement is interrupted in this way the student is deemed to have failed that element and to have used up one clinical placement opportunity.

In such cases, an individual action plan should be set up stating which activities and tests are required before the student is qualified for a new clinical placement on the course.

Transitional provisions

An examination will be made available for a period of one year in the event of the course being discontinued or a new course syllabus being devised.
