Specific entry requirements

30 ECTS in occupational therapy or other topic (for ex. nursing, physioterapy) from Karolinska Institutet.

Outcomes

The student should, on completion of the course have knowledge about, and be able to:

• define and present central concepts in the field of community rehabilitation (CBR) and home-based rehabilitation (HBR).
• integrate and describe these concepts in a global context, focusing on assessments and interventions in the home, neighbourhood and community
• identify and describe population demographics, service in the health care system and how rehabilitation in the home and in society is delivered
• recognize and describe the care and rehabilitation from the context of different countries and and compare and reflect in relation to the population in a global context.
• identify and describe cross-professional and international perspectives on living and health of different ages
• describe different assessments, interventions and evaluations that are relevant in community- and homebased reahbilitation
• identify, present and discuss ethical dilemmas in relation to community- and homebased reahbilitation
• have knowledge and understand World Health organizations´s (WHO) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG´s)

Content

• Definitions of community- and home-based rehabilitation (CBR and HBR)
• Identification and description of how the health care system functions and how rehabilitation in home and society meets the needs of the population
• The need of adaptaion of environment and the society
• National and global perspective on formal and informal care and rehabilitation
• Interdisciplinary and subject-specific perspectives on housing and health in different age groups
• Assessments, interventions and evaluations within community and homebased rehabilitation
• Interventions that supports the possibility to daily activity, work and recreational activities
• Ethical dilemmas within rehabilitation in relation to housing and the society
  

  A inidivdual development of a CBR- or HBR-programe, 4.0 credits

  
  Grading scale: VU
  In the individual written examination the student independently develops a CBR- och HBR-program and describes from a clientcase/familycase. The student shall identify, evaluate and connect to theory and reserach regarding different assessments, interventions and evaluations. The connection to ethical dilemmas is also presented in the paper and contains a interprofessional perspective.
  

  Presentation of a CBR-or HBR-project from literature, 2.0 credits

  A groupwork and presentation is done with the purpose to present a CBR or HBR project within optional theme from optional country according to theory and SDG´s
  

  Interprofessional and international perspectives on health and rehabilitation, 1.5 credits

  
  Grading scale: VU
  The application of CBR or other rehabilitation in different countires is discssed. Also, the organizaion and acess to healtcare an rehabilitation in societies, at home and in institutions are addressed. This also includes ethical and socioeconomic perspectives related to the Sustainalbe Development Goals. (SDGs)

Teaching methods

The teaching is based on a problem-oriented and collaborativt approach to learning in which the tasks provide opportunities för the student to take active responsibility för their learning. The used teaching methods are lectures, seminars, individual work, group work, literature review. The examiner decides whether, and if so how, absence from compulsory course elements can be made up. Study results cannot be reported until the student has participated in compulsory course elements or compensated for any absence in accordance with instructions from the examiner. Absence from a compulsory course element could mean that the student cannot retake the element until the next time the course is offered.

Examination

The course has three modules

Module 1: Interprofessional and international perspectives on health and rehabilitation 1.5 ECTS
A posterpresentation cariied out in a group

Module 2: A presentation of a CBR- or HBR project from litterature 2 ECTS
A grouppresentation

Module 3: A indiviudual developing of ac CBR- or HBR-program 4 ECTS
Through a written klientcase/familycase describe the different steps in the rehabilitationsprocess in a individual written paper and a seminar.

Grading scale: Pass with distinction/Pass/Fail.

Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five occasions more. If the student has failed a total of six examinations/tests, no additional examination is given. Each occasion the student participates in the same test counts as an examination. Submission of a blank exam paper is regarded as an examination. In case a student is registered for an examination but does not attend, this is not regarded as an examination. Late submissions of examinations are not accepted. Students who have not submitted on time are referred to re-examination.

If special needs exists, or need of adaptation för students with disabilities the examiner can make the desicion to deviate from the syllabus rules regarding form of examination, number of examinations, the possibility to complementary or exceptions from mandatory moments etc. Content and goals for the course and anticipation of skills, knowledge and abilities can´t be changed, removed or lowered.

The course will not be credited in a degree together with another course the student has completed and passed which completely or partly corresponds to the contents of this course. The following courses are partly overlapping: 1EE021, Community- and homebased rehabilitation - Cultural Perspectives (international students) 7.5 ECTS and 1EE104 Professional Identity within healthcare from a Global perspective 7.5 ECTS.

Evaluation of the course will be carried out according to the guidelines established from the Board of Higher Education. The report of the course-evaluation and an analysis of the result will be published on the course-web after the evaluation is finished.
