Outcomes

The aim of the course is that the student should have acquired advanced skills in planning, implementing, analyzing, discussing and reporting an in-depth study based on a clinical question, clinical case or comparison of healthcare systems.
The course is offered incoming students within the exchange programmes.

Knowledge and understanding are divided into levels according to SOLO taxonomy (S1-S4) and skills according to the Miller’s pyramid (M1-M4).*

  • utilize scientific literature (M2)
    - plan, implement and present an individual project work in a scientific manner (M3)

Content

The project work provides an opportunity to deepen the medical education by choosing the field of study on an individual level. Specific conditions regarding substance integration and clinical extension for each project is specified prior to the course start in a project plan written by the student.

The project plan is to be formulated in consultation with the supervisor. The specific work modules included vary depending on the nature and subject area of the specific project. The project will end with a report written by the student that reflects the student's own analysis and conclusions. The report shall also contain a reflection of the completed studies and an adequate reference to the Vancouver system. The entire work should also be brief and concise summarized in an abstract. Possibility of an oral presentation can be offered.

Teaching methods

Self-study, reflection and reading.

The course requires access to a computer.

The course is taught in English or Swedish.

Examination

Compulsory: Written project plan

Examination: Written report with reference list and abstract according to the course instructions

Course Coordinator assesses about and if so how absence from compulsory activity can be completed.
Absence from a compulsory activity can imply that the student can not complete the occasion until next time the course be given.

Examiner can with immediate impact interrupt a student's placement (placement) or the equivalent if the student shows such serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitudes that the patient security or the patients' trust for the healthcare are jeopardised.
When placement is interrupted like this, it implies that the student fails on current component and that a placement is consumed.
In such cases, an individual action plan should be established, which states the activities and examinations that are required before the student is given possibility to a new placement on this course.
