Specific entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree or a professional degree equivalent to a Swedish Bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits in public health science, healthcare or other relevant social sciences subject area.

A very good command of English.

Outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to apply research methods in global public health by conducting an independent research project. The course emphasizes critical thinking, methodological rigor, and ethical considerations in research.

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

  • Demonstrate subject-related and methodological knowledge, at an appropriately advanced level, relevant to the chosen research project.

Competence and skills

  • Independently identify relevant information sources, conduct literature reviews, and evaluate the relevance of the literature, including the correct handling of references.
  • Independently plan and carry out a research project in global public health within the given time frame.

Judgment and approach

  • Evaluate scientific and ethical considerations related to their own research work.
  • Reflect upon and discuss the research project’s findings in relation to previous research in the field.

Content

The course consists of individual work focused on conducting a research project. An individual study plan is prepared jointly by the student and the supervisor prior to the course and approved by the course leader/examiner.

Individual work under supervision.

Examination

Assessment is based on a written report and an oral presentation of the research project.
