Specific entry requirements

Outcomes

The course aims to analyze the field of digital health from an entrepreneurship perspective.

After completing the course the student should be able to:

  • Describe and discuss the area of digital health and current trends in the area from both a national and international perspective.
  • Explain and analyze the challenges faced by an entrepreneur in the field of digital health.
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of, and account for, how digital health can change healthcare globally.
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of and discuss issues related to ethics and personal integrity in the field of digital health.

Content

The course provides students with in-depth knowledge in the field of digital health from an entrepreneurship perspective. Current regulatory and business aspects, as well as challenges such as public procurement in the area, will be discussed as well as ethical issues and trends in the area.

Teaching methods

The course uses a student-centered educational model. Factual knowledge is obtained through literature studies and lectures and is applied through practical work. The practical work consists of workshops, case studies and project work in groups. The pedagogy is based on so-called "entrepreneurial learning" to create the conditions for creativity, reflection, and initiative.

Compulsory participation
Participation in seminars, workshops and presentations are mandatory. The examiner assesses if, and how, absence from compulsory educational elements can be compensated for. Before the student has participated in the compulsory educational elements or compensated the absence in accordance with the examiner's instructions, the final course results will not be reported.

Absence from a compulsory educational component may mean that the student cannot compensate for the missed compulsory educational element until the next time the course is given.

Examination

The examination consists of:

  • An individual written assignment (Fail/Pass /Pass with distinction)
  • A written group assignment (Fail/Pass)
  • Presentation of the group assignment (Fail/Pass)

To get the grade "Pass" on the course, all examinaitons must get at least the grade Pass. To get the grade "Pass with distinction" on the entire course, the student need to get grade "Pass with distinction" on the individual assignment and the grade "Pass" on the other assignments.

If there are special reasons, or need for adaptation for a student with a disability, the examiner may decide to depart from the syllabus's regulations on form of examination, number of examination opportunities, possibility of supplementing or exemptions from compulsory educational elements, etc. Content and learning objectives as well as the level of expected skills, knowledge and abilities must not be altered, removed or lowered.

Limited number of examinations
Students who have not passed the regular examination are entitled to participate in five more examinations. If the student has not passed the exam after four participations he/she is encouraged to visit the study advisor. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination or new admission is provided.

Participation in an examination is defined as an occasion on which a student attends an examination, even if the student submits a blank examination paper. If a student has registered to sit an examination, but does not attend the examination, this is not defined as participation in the examination.

Transitional provisions

Examination will be provided during a time of two years after a possible cancellation of the course. Examination can take place according to an earlier literature list during a time of one year after the date when a major renewal of the literature list has been made

Other directives

The course language is English.

The course is offered within the framework of the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship and given at Karolinska Institutet.

A course evaluation will be conducted according to guidelines decided by the The Committee for Higher Education.

Oral evaluation in the form of a course council meeting will be carried out during the course.
