Specific entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree or a professional degree worth at least 180 credits in biomedicine, biotechnology, cellular and molecular biology, pharmaceutics, health care, medicine, or the equivalent. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary school course English 6/English B.
Outcomes
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- Plan a research and development project by using relevant methods, koncepts, theories and models in leadership and entrepreneurship
- Identify and analyse on ethical and sustainability aspects on research and development
- Communicate science in both speech and writing to different target groups
- Reflect on one's need for knowledge and formulate aims for continued development
Content
The course aims to lay the foundation for the student's development on a professional and personal level and to prepare the student for broad career opportunities in academia, industry or the public sector. A researcher needs many different competencies, but to implement research and contribute to social and sustainable change, general and transferable skills are also needed. The course will introduce four key areas: leadership, entrepreneurship, ethcs and communication. The course is a cooperation between the departments FyFa and LIME.
Teaching methods
Orientating lectures are interspersed with self-studies and group assignments.
Examination
- Oral examination of group assignment. Graded Fail/Pass
- Individual written reflective assignment. Graded Fail/Pass/Pass with distinction
Compulsory participation
Participation in seminars and group assignments is compulsory. The examiner assesses if, and how, absence from compulsory course elements can be made up for. Study results cannot be reported until the student has participated in compulsory course elements or compensated for any absence in accordance with instructions from the examiner. Absence from a compulsory course element could mean that the student can not retake the element until the next time the course is offered.
Limitation of number of tests or practical training sessions
The students who have not passed the course according to the schedule are allowed to revise and hand in the assignment and/or do the oral presentation for a maximum of five additional occasions. If the student has failed six times in total, no further examination or continuation in the course participation is allowed. As submission, the times that the student submitted a revised version of the assignment and/or orally presented to examining teachers is counted.
In the event of special circumstances, or if a student with a disability is in need of certain adjustments, the examiner may decide to depart from the syllabus' regulations on examination form, number of examination opportunities, possibility of completion or exemption from compulsory educational elements, etc. Content and intended learning outcomes as well as the level of expected skills, knowledge and abilities must not be altered, removed or lowered.
Other directives
The course is given in English, and the examinations are in English.
A course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.
