Outcomes

The overall aim of the course is to give the participant an overall understanding of SRHR and child health in disasters and health crises, as well as tools to improve it. In addition it aims to give insight into how international health response related to the SRHR and child health can be planned and organized, with a focus on international humanitarian response.

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • describe the global burden of common diseases and conditions in in relation to sexual and reproductive health, as well as its clinical manifestations and management
  • describe the global burden of common diseases and conditions in children, as well as their clinical manifestations and management
  • plan interventions for the prevention and management of SRHR and children's health, in disasters and health crises

Content

The course is based on the global health situation for SRHR and children's health. It further shows how different types of disastersinfluences these, as well as which general and special measures are current to maintain SRHR and child health in crises and disasters.

  • The global health situation of SRHR
  • Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) in crisis situations
  • Safe motherhood
  • Family planning and abortion care
  • Health strategies and interventions for sexual and gender-based violence, including female genital mutilation
  • The global health situation related to children's health
  • Children's vulnerability and health in disasters
  • Integrated management of childhood diseases
  • Neonatology and care of the newborn child
  • Preventive, integrated and curative health care for common childhood diseases and child health threats
  • Care and management of acute malnutrition

Teaching methods

The course runs over two weeks, where half of the course consists of web-based distance studies and a final project work, and half of the course of interactive campus days, including exercises at a clinical training center.

Examination

The course is examined through project work individually or in groups. In work done in groups, the contribution of each group member will be assessed.

The participant receives the grade Passed (G) or Failed (U).

Compulsory participation
The course includes compulsory educational elements. In order to pass, participation in these is also required.

The examiner assesses if, and in that case how, absence from compulsory educational elements can be compensated for. Before the particpant has participated in the compulsory educational elements or compensated the absence in accordance with the examiner's instructions, the final course results will not be reported. Absence from a compulsory educational component may imply that the participant cannot compensate for the missed compulsory educational element until the next time the course is given.

Limitation of number of occasions to write the exam
The number of occasions to write the exam is regulated in the contract for executive education.

Transitional provisions

The course is an executive education and transitional provisions are regulated in the contract.
