Specific entry requirements
For admission to the course, it is required that the student is admitted to the Study Programme in Nursing with general entry requirements for higher education in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7 (Swedish Statute Book 1998:1003). Furthermore, 30 credits from semesters one, two and three, respectively, and at least 15 credits from semester four.
Outcomes
The aims of the course are for the student to acquire knowledge in pedagogics in order to, in the profession as a nurse, be able to inform and teach patients and family, and supervise students and staff. An additional aim is to understand information technology in health care to be able to use and evaluate quality standards in a future profession, and be able to use computerised administrative systems in care. A further aim of the course is for the student to understand the importance of leadership for staff and working groups, and to be able to analyse and develop strategies to initiate and manage changes in nursing. In part 1, the student should acquire knowledge in pedagogics, as a support in her profession as a nurse, to be able to: - understand the connection between the individual, the context and the learning process - understand the relationship between learning and application in the nursing profession - analyse learning processes by means of relevant communication and learning theories - understand the individual's ability to acquire information in different situations and apply this knowledge in his/her future profession In part 2, the student should acquire knowledge in information and communication technology as a support in his/her profession as a nurse, to be able to: - understand how information technology is used and can be used within the care - understand how the information technology is related to ethics, security, and confidentiality - understand communication and learning processes in relation to the information technology of today - realise the importance of communication theories in relation to the technology In part 3, the student should acquire knowledge in leadership, as a support in her profession as a nurse, to be able to: - understand the organisation and leadership of the health care from different perspectives, inter alia gender and equality, ethics, ethnicity and power - understand organisation and the importance of change theories to develop activities and identify strategies for change management - report on labour, equality and working environment legislation - be able to lead various types of meetings in one's future profession
Content
The course is divided in three parts: Part 1: Pedagogics, 3 HE credits. In this part, various pedagogical theories on learning, and strategies for information and teaching are included. Similarly, the different learning strategies are processed to positively strengthen the staff's motivation, determination and courage to develop personal qualities and professional skills. Part 2: Information and communication technology, 1.5 HE credits. The part comprises nursing informatics and medical informatics Part 3: Management, 3 HE credits. In order to illustrate the special conditions that apply to leadership within nursing, organisation and leadership are analysed based on different organisation and leadership theories.
Teaching methods
The working methods aim to integrate the three parts pedagogics, information and communication technology and leadership of the course. The working methods of the course aim to train interaction, critical reflection and analysis based on a scientific approach. In this course, a number of different working method are used to stimulate an active knowledge acquisition: lectures, seminars, group exercises, project work and individual work. The course comprises compulsory teaching. In the study guide and timetable, compulsory parts are stated. In case of absence from compulsory parts, see to instructions in the study guide.
Examination
Assessment of the students' achievements and knowledge acquisition takes place continuously during the course. Part 1 is examined through individual written examination, oral examination in a group. Project Work in groups. Practical exercises. Part 2 is examined through individual written examination, oral examination in a group. Project Work in groups. Part 3 is examined through an individual written examination, oral examination in a group. Practical exercises. Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions A student without an approved result after three examinations can be offered to take the course once more. However, there are at most six examination opportunities for each course. Examination times are announced at the beginning of the course.
