Specific entry requirements

For admission to the course the student have had completed at least 80 % (48 credits) of courses at semester 1 and 2.

Objectives

The course is part of a scientific streak including a total of 16.5 HE credits and runs through the entire study programme. The aim of the scientific streak is to provide the student with knowledge on research methodology and skills in a scientific working method. The specific aim of this course – Scientific methods 2 – is to give an introduction to scientific review.<br />Learning outcomes of the course<br />On completion of the course, the student should be able to discuss, compare, and critically review scientific texts, be able to present orally, and in a group motivate an objective review of a scientific text, demonstrate a self-critical approach by understanding and, in an objective manner, responding to others' reviews of scientific text.

Content

Scholarship 2 - scientific review, 1.5 hp Overview of the most common types of weaknesses in scientific work. Scientific articles that have been distributed during the course Sound perception should be reviewed, compared and discussed critically in groups. Continued exercise about reference management according to the APA method.

Teaching methods

Review of articles is carried out partly through self-study. Presentation and discussion of the reviews take place in jigsaw seminars. In addition, an introductory lecture is given. Seminar exercises with companion review if the APA method is included.

Active participation in jigsaw seminars.

For a Pass grade in the course, attendance at compulsory parts is also required. In case of absence from compulsory part, the student is responsible alone to contact course coordinator for complementary assignment. Being offered for students who not have become passed at the regular examination total possibility to six examinations, of which the three last in connection with the next occasion then the course is given.

Transitional provisions

Examination may take place under the previous reading list during a period of one year after the date of the renewal of the reading list. Examination will be provided during a period of two years after a close-down of the course.

Other directives

A study guide is distributed at the beginning of the course, comprising assessment criteria for examination, specific instructions for certain tasks, a timetable specifying compulsory parts, and a list of responsible teachers.<br />Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education. Course evaluation will be carried out both through a written course evaluation at the end of the course, and through an oral course forum at least once in connection with the course, where the students may express their opinions.
