Specific entry requirements

Specific eligibility according to The Programme syllabus of The Study Programme in Audiology 180 credits

Objectives

The course is included in a scientific streak which includes total 15 HE credits and runs through all study programme. The general aim with the scientific streak is to provide the student knowledge in research methodology and skills in scientific working method. Part that contains scientific methodology also is integrated in other courses within the program. The specific aim of this course – Scientific methods 1 – is to give the student training to read and summarise scientific literature and to write scientific text.

The expected learning outcomes of the course
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Critically review scientific articles in medical audiology or audiology diagnostics,
- Write a scientific text based on scientific articles within a specific part of the subject area medical audiology or audiology diagnostics.

Content

The course includes basic scientific methodology. The main part of the course consists of own literature search and production of scientific text based on scientific articles within a delimited field linked to medical audiology or audiology diagnostics. The course furthermore deals with the structure of a scientific article and introduction to reference management.

Teaching methods

Lectures, supervision and seminars. Certain parts of the teaching are compulsory.

In case of absence from compulsory part, the student is responsible for contacting the course coordinator for a complementary assignment.

The course director assesses if, and in that case how absence from compulsory education elements can be replaced. Before the student has participated in the compulsory parts or has replaced compulsory education, in accordance to the instructions of the course coordinator, the final study results cannot be reported.
Absence from a compulsory education element can imply that the student can not recover the occasion until next time the course be given.

Examination

Written assignment

For a Pass grade in the course, attendance at compulsory parts is also required.

For students who have not passed the regular examination, possibility for re-examination is offered at a total of six examinations, of which the three last in connection to the next occasion when the course is given. As examination, the times are counted when the student has participated in the same test. Supplementary qualification of written assignment is counted as an examination.

Transitional provisions

Examination can take place according to an earlier literature list during a time of one year after the date when a renewal of the literature list been made. Examination will be provided during a time of two years after a possible close-down of the course.

Other directives

Study supervision containing assessment criteria for examination, specific instructions for certain tasks and timetable with specification of compulsory parts and list of responsible teachers be distributed.

Course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines that are established by the Board of Higher Education. Course evaluation is carried out both through a written course evaluation at the end of the course and and through oral course forum at least once in connection with course where students can state his opinions.
