Specific entry requirements

Specific eligibility according to The Programme syllabus of The Study Programme in Audiology 180 credits.

Objectives

The course is included in a scientific streak which includes total 15 HE credits and runs through all Audiology study programme. The general aim with the scientific streak is to provide the student knowledge in research methodology and skills in scientific working method. The part that contains scientific methodology is also integrated in other courses within the program. The specific aim of this course - Scientific methods 1 - Introduction to Scientifics, is to search and find scientific articles on the topic audiology and to systematically and critically examine these .

The expected learning outcomes of the course
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • search and find scientific literature
  • read, critically review and orally explain the scientific articles in the field of audiology, or related fields 
  • understand the meaning of referencing and plagiarism

Content

The course includes basic scientific methodology. The main part of the course consists of own literature search and review of scientific articles.  The course furthermore deals with the structure of a scientific article and introduction to reference management.

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars and group work. .

In case of absence from compulsory part, the student is responsible for contacting the course director for a complementary assignment.

The examiner assesses how absence from compulsory education elements can be replaced. Before the student has participated in the compulsory parts or has replaced compulsory education, in accordance to the instructions of the course director, the final study results cannot be reported.

Absence from a compulsory education element may lead to that the student can not recover the occasion until next time the course is given.

Examination

The result of the critical review is presented orally

For a Pass grade in the course, attendance and active participation in compulsory parts are also required. Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five more occasions. Each time the course is offered, one regular examination and two additional examinations are given. Each occasion the student participates in the same test counts as an examination. Supplementary qualification of written assignment is counted as an examination. In case a student is registered for an examination but does not attend, this is not regarded as an examination.

If there are special grounds, or a need for adaptation for a student with a disability, the examiner may decide to deviate from the syllabus's regulations on the examination form, the number of examination opportunities,  the possibility of supplementation or exemptions from the compulsory section/s of the course etc. Content and learning outcomes, as well as the level of expected skills, knowledge and abilities, may not be changed, removed or reduced.

Transitional provisions

Examination can take place according to an earlier literature list during a time of one year after the date when a renewal of the literature list been made. Examination will be provided during a time of two years after a possible close-down of the course.

Other directives

Course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines that are established by the Board of Education. Course evaluation is carried out both through a written course evaluation at the end of the course and and through oral course forum at least once in connection with course where students can state his opinions.
