Objectives

Aim Community – and Home Based Rehabilitation seeks to ensure that people with disabilities have equal access to rehabilitation and other services and opportunities - health, education and income - as do all other members of society. The overall aim of this Interprofessional Course in Community – and Home Based Rehabilitation is to provide the students with knowledge about theoretical frameworks as well as practical tools in how to design, implement and assess the effects of interventions and technology in the home and community care and rehabilitation. Learning outcomes Part 1. Knowledge in current definitions of Community – and Home Based Rehabilitation. Skills to describe (the relevance of place) as a key component in the integration of care and rehabilitation in a global context, focusing on assessments and interventions at home, neighbourhood and community. This will include identification and description of demographics of the population and how the health care system and the provision of services and rehabilitation in the home and the community are provided. Part 2. Knowledge and skills in demonstrating the complexity of formal and informal care and rehabilitation in Swedish context in comparison with the population in a global context and also to identify and describe inter-disciplinary and cross-national perspectives on subjective and objective aspects of housing and health in the span of all ages. Part 3. Knowledge in different kinds of assessments, interventions, and evaluations relevant for community-based rehabilitation involving environmental measures such as housing adaptations, assistive technology, caregiver support and ADL-intervention. Part 4. Skills to identify, present and discuss ethical dilemmas in relation to home and community care and rehabilitation.

Content

Part 1. Definitions of Community – and Home Based Rehabilitation. Identification and description of how the health care system and the provision of care and rehabilitation in the home and the community and demographics of the population are provided. Home assessment, assessment of neighbourhood and community. Part 2. Learning about formal and informal care and rehabilitation in Swedish context in comparison with the population in a global context. Learning about inter-disciplinary and cross-national perspectives on subjective and objective aspects of housing and health in the span of all ages. Part 3. Learning about different kinds of assessments, interventions, and evaluations relevant for community-based rehabilitation involving environmental measures such as housing adaptations,assistive technology, ADL-interventions, interventions enabling work and recreational activities. Part 4. Learning about ethical dilemmas in relation to home and community care and rehabilitation.

Teaching methods

Ways of Teaching The course has its base from a problem-oriented way of learning. Different kinds of ways of teaching will be used as lectures, workshops, individual work, group seminar on literature reviews, pilot studies and case studies

Examination

Examination Part 1 and 2. A group examination, the students shall define the concepts of CBR and make an overview of health and social care systems from a global perspective. The group shall also analyse and describe how the developments of the population in the world look like from a socio-economical and political perspective regarding similarities and differences within CBR. The presentation will be oral at an examination seminar. (3 ECTS) Part 3 and 4. The students shall individually describe how housing and assistive technology look like as part of the rehabilitation process in their home country with an issue on resources and limitations depending on policies (laws and regulations) from the home country. The students will present this as a family case history including different ethical dilemmas in the home and community care related to occupational therapy and/or physiotherapy literature. (4,5 ECTS) This individual paper will be handed over to Richard, Lena or Hellen on Monday the 26th of May, on Wednesday the 28th there will be an examination. Further details will come. There will be 5 opportunities to do your examination again if you failed, The dates will be announced on the web-page of the course.

Other directives

Evaluation of the course will be realized according to the guidelines established from the Board of Education. The report of the course-evaluation and an analysis of the result will be published on the course-webb one month after the evaluation is finished.
