Theme Scientific Work - Degree Project in Physiotherapy, 15 credits

To be eligible for the course Theme Scientific Work - Degree Project in Physiotherapy, passed result is required in all courses in semester 1 up to semester 4. In semester 5, a pass is required in the course Theme Scientific Work - Research Methods, Project plan.

The aim of the course is that the student develops a scientific and critical approach, and is stimulated to a deepening in the main field of physiotherapy as a research area, by carrying out a research project independently under supervision.

Learning outcomes
The student should on completion of the course independently be able to:

• Formulate a research question and systematically search for, critically review and evaluate scientific evidence based on relevance for physiotherapy.
• Motivate and apply scientific designs and methods based on chosen research question.
• Collect, process, analyse and interpret data based on the formulated research question.
• Present scientific results in a logical and structured way, and discuss the results in relation to relevant literature and current research.
• Apply good research ethics and discuss ethical issues and considerations in research.
• Writing up and present a delimited research project and carry out oral defence and critical review in a structured and constructive way
• Critically review own and others' research projects based on a scientific approach and discuss and evaluate its value from a physiotherapeutic and societal perspective.

The main content of the course is to carry out a delimited research project, based on a previously developed project plan, in the main field of physiotherapy. The course contains information retrieval, evaluation and compilation of scientific literature, data collection, data analysis and written compilation of the research project. Included in the course is oral defence of own research project and to critically review and publicly discuss another research project.

The teaching is based on a problem-oriented and collaborative approach to learning in which assignments provide opportunities for students to take active responsibility for their learning. The used working methods are supervision and peer review. Learning activities and communication between students and teachers/supervisor will mainly take place via digital platforms.

Compulsory course elements are:

• Active participation in all supervision meetings, peer reviews and lectures.

The examiner decides if, and how, absence from compulsory parts can be compensated. Study results cannot be reported until the student has participated in compulsory course elements or compensated for any absence in accordance with instructions from the course coordinator. Absence from a compulsory educational component may mean that the student cannot take the opportunity until the next time the course is given.

The course is examined according to the following:

• Oral examination where the student defends own research project and critically review and discuss another research project.
• Written research project which is assessed based on established assessment criteria.

The examination may take place digitally.
Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five more occasions. This will not apply when the course has been discontinued or undergone major changes. If a student has failed six examinations no additional examination is given. Each occasion the student participates in the same test counts as an examination.

Late submissions of examination tasks are not accepted. Students who have not submitted their examination on time are refered to the occasion for re-take.
The examiner decides if a student has special reasons for the delay. The examiner is given the possibility to make decisions about supplementary examination documentation to achieve passed result. Students who still lack a pass after three examinations have the possibility of retaking the course or parts of it one more time. This applies to possible availability.

In case of the existence of special reasons, or need for adaptation for a student with a disability, the examiner may decide to depart from the syllabus's regulations on examination form, number of examination opportunities, possibility of completion or exemption from compulsory educational elements, etc. Content and intended learning outcomes as well as the level of expected skills, knowledge and abilities must not be altered, removed or lowered.

An examination will be made available for a period of one year in the event of the course being discontinued or a new course syllabus being devised.

Course evaluation takes place according to the guidelines that are established by the Committee for education at first cycle and second cycle.

Some teaching may be in English.

The course will not be credited in a degree together with another course the student has completed and passed which completely or partly corresponds to the contents of this course.
