Specific entry requirements

Passed results of at least 55 higher education credits from The Opometry programme's semester 1 and 2 and at least 45 higher education credits from semester 3 and 4.

Objectives

After the course, the student should be able to: - describe methods for orthoptic diagnosis and treatment. - Take an orthoptic status. - Identify different types of strabismus. - identify patients with asthenopia. - refer the patient to another clinician when necessary.

Content

The contents and planning of the course - The working method of the orthoptist - Diagnostics and treatment in orthoptics - Relevant research - Auscultation - Clinical demonstrations The aim of the course: The course will highlight, how the orthoptist investigates, diagnoses and treats patients in the speciality orthoptics. The course will specialise on the cooperation between optician and orthoptist with specific focusing on the understanding of terminology, referral procedure and treatment of asthenopic troubles at adult and children.

Teaching methods

The courses include lectures, laboratory sessions and demonstrations and problem-oriented study elements. Group assignment with a patient case.

Examination

Examination/Patient cases. Compulsory attendance at laboratory sessions and demonstrations and passed oral tests. In case of absence from compulsory parts, measures with the course director are discussed. The grades Failed/Passed (U/G) are used

Course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines that are established by the Board of Higher Education.
