Specific entry requirements

Field-specific entry requirements 13: Biology course B, Physics course B, Chemistry course B, Mathematics course D. The Board of Education has decided that applicants with the following courses are exempted from the field-specific entry requirements 13: Biology course A, Physics course A and Chemistry course A (or General sciences course B).

Objectives

After the course, the student should be able to:
1) describe the main features in the structure of the cells, the tissues and the central nervous system in man,
2) describe the connection between structure and function in the cell, the tissues and the central nervous system
3) describe and identify the most important anatomical structures in the head and their relationships
4) describe the connection between the structure of the head, and common diseases in ear, nose and throat

Content

The course comprises:
- the cell structure at microscopic and submicroscopic levels,
- the body tissues with an emphasis on the nerve tissues,
- the macroscopic structure of the central nervous system and the structure and function of the systems that are responsibility for different sensory functions apart from vision,
- the anatomy of the head (the building of the skull, the surface anatomy of the head, the vascular and innervation supply of the head, and the nasal cavity, the oral cavity and the throat).

Teaching methods

The course may include self-study demonstrations, group assignments, laboratory sessions, theoretical overviews (in the form of lectures, seminars, Case and/or practical exercises). Attendance is compulsory at laboratory sessions, group assignments and demonstrations, in case of absence actions are discussed with the course director.

Examination

The examination comprises written examination and attendance in compulsory parts. Re examination may be oral. Criteria for assessing examinations, compulsory attendance and written assignments are determined in a separate document.

Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions:
Students who have not passed the regular examination are entitled to participate in five more examinations. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination or new admission is provided. The number of times that the student has participated in one and the same examination is regarded as an examination session. Submission of a blank examination is regarded as an examination. An examination for which the student registered but not participated in, will not be counted as an examination.

Transitional provisions

The course has been cancelled and was offered for the last time in the fall semester of 2018. Examination will be provided until the fall of 2021 for students who have not completed the course. 

Other directives

Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education.

The teaching language is Swedish but parts of the course may be given in English.
