Specific entry requirements
To be qualified to a higher semester, it is required that the student has taken at least 15 ECT credits from last semester, and all credits from previous semesters.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to: Describe the breasts normal anatomy and physiology Describe the diseases of the breasts and different diagnostic methods. Describe the various treatment methods available for breast disease. Reflect on patient experience at suspected disease in the breasts and analyse and discuss the treatment of patient at radiological breast diagnostics Be able to understand the principles of mammographic imaging
Content
The course intends to give an advanced study in the area of radiological breast diagnostics. The advanced study in the area takes place through an overview of modern diagnostic methods, advanced study in the anatomy pathology and treatment methods of the breasts, these include both inflammatory conditions and different cancer diseases. Placement at mammography unit is included in the course and will be planned with the course teacher. During the clinical placement, the student may follow the patient's path through the department. The student will follow the patient at the different examinations that may be included in a mammographic department such as ultrasound, breast punction and possibly MRI of the breast. The student also participates in rounds and visit breast physicians the pathologist and operating room during the clinical placement. The student may also practise to counter and inform the patient and /or relatives about the examination, and practice simple imaging methodology.
Teaching methods
The working methods that are used during the course are lectures, clinical placement and literature studies.
Examination
For a Pass grade in the course participation in compulsory parts is required and passed independent written examination and advanced assignment. The placement in the course are compulsory. Compensation of absence is planned in consultation with examiner. In consultation with the examiner of the course, the student may get a complementary assignment in case of absence from a compulsory part. The student is entitled to a total of six test occasions to get passed. In connection to the course three occasions will be given One within the course, one during the following re-examination. The third opportunity is provided before the beginning of the next semester, or in close connection to that. In certain cases, it is required that the student submits an exemption application before he/she get the results of his/her latest completed examination. Three more opportunities are provided according to the same set-up when the course is given next time
Transitional provisions
The student has the opportunity to be examined according to earlier course syllabus within a year after the date been taken after decision that the course is closed down or goes through larger changes
Other directives
Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education.
