Specific entry requirements
Admission to semester 5 / All courses from semester 1 and 2 / Semester 3 passed assessment from placement 9 credits in (1SJ022).
Objectives
The general aim of the course is for the student to aquire knowledge and skills in the field of wounds and nuring care in wound treatment.
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- explain normal wound healing and identify factors that inhibit or facilitate the wound healing process
- assess wounds based on wound history and status
- propose, justify and apply treatment principles for different types of wounds in relation to the person's situation, clicical picture, diagnosis and evidence
- assess and reflect on quality of life and the impact of psycosocial aspects on the healing process in people with acute and hard-to-heal wounds
- identify ethical aspects in connection with the care of people with hard-to-heal wounds and relate these to the person's life situation
- identify and propose preventive measures based on current research and evidence-based methods to prevent wound recurrence
- establish a care plan for wound healing based on a person-centered approach where relatives are involved
Content
The course covers:
- normal wound healing process
- risk factors and mechanisms of occurrence in different types of wounds
- nursing measures and evidence-based wound treatment principles based on the person's situation, clinical picture
- quality of life - psychosocial aspects of wounds and nursing care in wound treatment
- ethical aspects in connection with wound treatment
- preventive measures to prevent recurrence and the appearance of ulcers
- hygien routines in wound treatment
- record keeping and follow-up of wounds and wound treatment documentation of wounds and wound treatment
- doppler diagnostics and compression therapy.
Teaching methods
The teaching is based on a problem-oriented and collaborative approach to learning, in which the tasks provide opportunities for the student to take active responsibility for their learning. The used teaching methods are lectures, group discussions, proficiency training and individual studies. Teaching methods such as individual study assignments, work in groups and seminars also occur.
Examination
The examination is carried out by an individual written examination.
Participation in seminars and group work is compulsory. The examiner decides whether, and if so how, absence from compulsory course elements can be made up. Study results cannot be reported until the student has participated in compulsory course elements or compensated for any absence in accordance with instructions from the course coordinator.
Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five more occasions. A student without an approved result after three examinations can be offered to retake the course or parts of it once more; subject to availability. . If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination is given. Each occasion the student participates in the same test counts as an examination. Submission of a blank exam paper is regarded as an examination. In case a student is registered for an examination but does not attend, this is not regarded as an examination.

Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education.
