General admission requirements.

Objectives

The aim is for the students to acquire basic knowledge in psychology, and understand psychology as a science defined as the study of behaviour and mental processes. The aim is also for the students to acquire knowledge in the main areas of psychology and central concepts and perspectives. Learning outcomes On completion of the course, the students should:: Be able to account for the main areas of psychology such as motivation, emotion, perception, developmental psychology, personality, cognition and memory. Demonstrate ability to critically review and evaluate psychological theories, methods and research findings Be able to account for the connection between psychosocial factors, and health and unhealth, respectively. Be familiar with psychological treatment methods and principles to prevent disease Be familiar with at least one method to measure health/un-health

Content

The course deals with central concepts and areas within psychology where a biopsychosocial perspective is emphasised. Applications of theories, methods and results within these areas are presented. Further, the course provides knowledge of the connection between psychosocial factors, and health such behavioural factors predicting health or disease.

Teaching methods

The teaching is given as lectures, seminars and audio visual recorded elements.

Examination

The course is examined according to the following: - written examination. In case of failure in the regular examination, the student is given the opportunity to return to a make-up examination during the same semester. After that, the student has the possibility to be examined on two occasions each semester in the following semesters. The student has a possibility of, all in all, six examinations.

Transitional provisions

Examination will be provided during one year after a close-down of the course or a new syllabus.

Course evaluation Course evaluation is conducted according to the guidelines established by the Board of Education at KI, and based on established evaluation routines within the programme.
