Specific entry requirements
Objectives
At the end of the course, you are expected to: be able to identify and exemplify psychological and ethical aspects on dental and medical treatment be able to identify and reflect around communication patterns between different care providers and between care providers and patients in a multicultural society have identified the future sphere of activity, the oral environment, and have knowledge of the dental and dental hygienist professions have basic knowledge and understanding of learning and the own learning profile, and know surrounding/other factors affect the learning i.a. in groups.
Content
The Introductory course includes two thematic areas; Man and society and My clinical self and study technique, study harmony and library science. Man and society contains psychological and ethical aspects on the sphere of activity of dentistry, priority issues in care, nursing in a multicultural society and communication. My clinical self contains general information and orientation on the field of activity of the dentistry and oral diseases. Practical exercises including, i. a. hygiene exercises, self-treatment. The course is cross-programme between the Dental technician and the Dental programmes. Within the thematic area of Man and Society, the study programme in dental hygiene is also involved.
Teaching methods
The knowledge is provided in the form of lectures, group exercises with clinical application, seminars and practical exercises with clinical application, and individual written assignments.
Examination
Examination is arranged through take-home exam in the area of Man and society. In the area of My clinical self, attendance is required in at least 4/5 group exercise sessions for a Pass grade. Students are offered two make-up sessions on two occasions at the end of the course. If the student's examination is not approved, the student gets 2 more examination opportunities. After that, the student is recommended to retake the course and is given 3 more examination opportunities. If the student is not approved after 6 attempts, he/she has no more admission to the course (HF, chapter 6 section 11 a).
Transitional provisions
If the course is closed down or undergoes major changes, examination under a previous literature list and learning outcomes will be offered no more than one academic year after the implementation of the revision/close-down.
Other directives
Course evaluation is carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education. Course evaluation takes place in writing via a web survey.
