Specific entry requirements
Approved in all courses until the 4th semester, the first part of the degree project, and 15 higher education credits approved for the 5th semester.
Objectives
At the end of the course the student should: Be able to analyse and solve tasks in combined fixed and removable prosthodontics Be able to independently reflect on and critically assess the quality of different types of constructions within the combined fixed and partial prosthodontic area Have fundamental theoretical knowledge in maxillofacial prosthodontics Be able to manufacture a complete denture including a duplicate denture and an overdenture.
Content
The course is divided into two subcomponents: 1. Removable denture theory (3 higher education credits) - Introduction - Different attachments, an overview - The working process when manufacturing a duplicate denture in the upper jaw. - The working process when manufacturing an overdenture with stud attachments. - The working process when manufacturing a bar overdenture with abutment crowns. - Demonstrations of laboratory procedures. - Oral reports in seminars. 2. Removable denture laboratory procedures (1.5 higher education credits) The practical part of the course includes the manufacturing of: - Working models for all cases included in the course. - Overdenture with stud attachments - Duplicate denture - Bar overdenture with abutment crowns and casted CoCr framework with detailed elements.
Removable prosthodontics - theory, 3.0 hp
Removable prosthodontics - laboratory work, 1.5 hp
Teaching methods
Knowledge is provided in the form of lectures, seminars, demonstrations, tutorials and individually written assignments (papers) with oral presentations together with individual practice exercises with self-assessment. Attendance is compulsory when the lecturer so indicates.
Examination
Assessment of student performance and knowledge acquired is by means of approved individually written assignments with oral presentations, approved individually devised practice exercises and approved practical test and oral final examination. If the student fails the first examination, he or she will have two extra opportunities. Thereafter the student will be recommended to repeat the course, thereby getting three more opportunities of examination. If the student has failed six times there will be no more opportunities of examination or of repeating the course (HF6 kap.11§).
Transitional provisions
If the course is removed or substantially changed, examination according to the former literature list and learning outcomes will be offered one academic year after the change or removal.
Other directives
The students will evaluate the course according to standards set by the Board of Education. The evaluation is done by web survey.
