Specific entry requirements

For admission to semester 2, at least 22.5 credits from semester 1 are required.

Objectives

At the end of the course, you are expected to: Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of human behaviour, both as an individual and, more specifically, in the different professional groups in the dental care team. Be able to describe basic psychological theories, such as communication, team building, group process, group dynamics, conflicts and conflict management. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of teamwork and cooperation in the dental care team. Be able to critically review, assess and use relevant theory in behavioural science. Be able to discuss facts, phenomena and issues in the dental care team, and, thereby, contribute to well developed communication.

Content

The course contains lectures, seminars and auscultations. - Communication - roles - group process and group dynamics - different leader styles - conflicts and conflict solution

Teaching methods

The knowledge is provided in lectures, seminars, group exercises and auscultations at dentists and dental technicians.

Examination

Examination forms that are used are a written final examination and an oral examination. Assessment of the students' achievements and knowledge acquisition takes place through a passed written take-home exam and an oral examination. Requirement on attendance at certain lectures and auscultations. In case of absence in a regular lecture, the student should submit a written report on the contents of the lecture to pass. Attendance at auscultation is also required. In case of absence in an auscultation, the student should make the auscultation on a later occasion. In a written take-home examination, 65% correct answers is required for a Pass grade. Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions If the student's examination is not approved, he/she gets 2 more attempts. After that, the student is recommended to retake the course and is given 3 more examination opportunities. If the student has not passed after 6 trials, he/she has no more admission to the course. (HF chapter 6 section 11 a)

Transitional provisions

If the course is closed down or undergoes major changes, examination under a previous literature list and learning outcomes will be offered no more than one academic year after the implementation of the revision/close-down.

Other directives

Cross-programme elements - A part of the behavioural science relates to future semesters in fixed prosthodontics in communication between students in the Study Programmes in Dental Technology and in Dentistry. Course evaluation - Course evaluation takes place in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education Course evaluation takes place via a web survey.
