Objectives

At the end of the course the student should: • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of both theoretical and practical methods involved in the construction of dental implant supported prostheses • Give an account of the clinical therapy planning procedures, including oral radiology, for different implant appliances • Understand and describe principles and conditions to replace lost teeth with dental implant supported prostheses • Be able to propose different material and prosthetic alternatives regarding single, partially and full edentulous situations • Be able to manufacture an implant supported prostheses for a partially edentulous situation and describe the methods and procedures involved in the process • Be familiar with different procedures of manufacturing dental implant restoration using the CAD/CAM technique

Content

The course is divided into two subcomponents: 1. Implants – theory (3 higher education credits) - Introduction - Clinical aspects, diagnostics, therapy planning and radiology - Single implant supported prostheses - Partially edentulous implant supported prostheses - Demonstrations of practical course elements 2. Implants - laboratory work (4,5 higher education credits) The practical part of the course includes the fabrication of: - Working models for all cases included in the course - Fabrication of implant supported PFM bridge - Fabrication of single implant supported crown

Teaching methods

Knowledge is provided in the form of lectures, tutorials, demonstrations and individual practical exercises with self-assessment.

Examination

Assessment of student performance and knowledge acquired is by means of approved individual practical exercises and approved oral final examination. Attendance is compulsory at demonstrations. Absence is compensated by special assignments. On the event of failure, students will have at most 2 extra opportunities to re-sit the examination during the same term. Thereafter the student will be recommended to repeat the course and thereby given 3 more examination opportunities. If the student have not passed the course after 6 attempts, the student will lose the available position in the course (HF6 kap.11a§).

Transitional provisions

If the course is removed or substantially changed, examination according to the former literature list and learning outcomes will be offered one academic year after the change or removal.

Other directives

The students will evaluate the course according to standards set by the Board of Education. The evaluation is done by web survey.
