Objectives

The aim of the course is to give theoretical and practical knowledge of design of the physical environment and its relevance for individuals to cope with activities in everyday life. The course also aims at providing enhanced knowledge in assessing, carrying out and evaluating actions in the field.

On completion of the course, the student should: on the basis of theories be able to reflect and discuss individual design of the physical environment, be able to apply knowledge of methods, measures and evaluation to be able to design the physical environment individually, be able to plan, carry out and present a project within a given time frame

After part 1, the student should be able to: account for central theories and concepts; methods for assessment, evaluation, documentation and quality assurance; ethical positions based on the individual, family, health-care personnel; research and development in the area of adaptation/tools/techniques apply methods for assessment, evaluation, documentation and quality assurance

After part 2, the student should be able to: account for the application of individual design of a physical environment, based on a problem of one's own choice address the physical environment, design, carry out, document and present a project work within a given time frame

Content

Individual design of the physical environment has obtained increased importance as an intervention in health care for individuals with functional limitations. The development in the area of technique and health have contributed to the creation of new opportunities for action. This, in its turn, makes increased demands on knowledge in the professions that in their practice have the responsibility to assess, address and evaluate actions in the physical environment. The course consists of two parts:

Part 1:
Assessment of person and the physical environment plus evaluation, 3 HE credits (Assessment of person and the physical environment plus evaluation)

In part 1, central theories, methods, intervention, research and ethical positions based on the individual design of the environment, are studied

Part 2: Physical environments and interventions, 4.5 HE credits (Physical environments and interventions)

In part 2 a project work is carried out individually, related to individual design of physical environment.

Teaching methods

The course has its pedagogical basis in a problem-oriented working method. Different working methods are used such as lectures, work in study groups, field studies, processing of literature, seminars and placement. Examination

Part 1 is examined at a seminar.

Part 2 is examined through an implemented project, a written report, and through a presentation chosen by the student.

For a Pass grade, participation in a workshop and approved implemented seminars and project work, are required. In case of absence, the course coordinator is contacted for complementary tasks.

All examinations, seminars and laboratory sessions are compulsory. In case of absence, an agreement is made between the student and the responsible teacher concerning compensation of the absence. The examinations included in the course are conducted according to established assessment criteria.

Re-examination takes place on five occasions, at most. These are scheduled for the week before the beginning of the autumn semester, the week before beginning of the spring semester and the week after the end of the spring semester. Any changes are posted on the course web page.

Other directives

A course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education at KI. A course report with an analysis of the results of the course evaluation will be posted on the course web page within 10 weeks after the completion of the course evaluation.
