Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and skills to independently be able to apply and integrate specific nursing with medical care and treatment. From ethical, cultural, gender and pedagogical aspects the student should develop towards a professional approach in ambulance care. On completion of the course, the student should have developed his/her ability to independently be able to explain and understand how to assesss the individual's vital parameters, and describe the treatment of him/her based on a choice of appropriate drugs and/or tools/equipment account for and explain current medical technology on the basis of basic monitoring. account for and explain ergonomic principles in the context of the ambulance care, be able to assess risks and discuss the choice of method in order to prevent complications in positioning and transfer of patient within ambulance care, identify and apply laws, regulations and safety precautions related to ambulance care. evaluate and analyse basic hygiene procedures on the basis of the specific care work of the ambulance nurse. explain and understand the nursing process in the prehospital nursing chain on the basis of an individual-centered approach, and document and report to the receiving unit. demonstrate knowledge in current research and evidence-based nursing and discuss the relationship between science and proven experience in specific nursing and medical science within ambulance care.
Content
Placement in ambulance care Field study, call center Preparation and proficiency training in view of placement. technology and knowledge of materials, specific equipment in the ambulance, ergonomics and specific working environment from an ambulance care perspective, and prevention based on the individual's security and positioning. prevention of care-related infections, hygienic and aseptic principles, protective clothings, cleaning of equipment, and decontamination, medical engineering equipment, laws and regulations concerning ambulance care. identify, analyse, assess, address, and evaluate the treatment of the individual. document and report to the receiving unit. specifically, current pharmaceutical scientific articles within ambulance care
Teaching methods
The course is web-based (distance) The distance education is IT based. Different working methods such as individual study assignments, work in groups, discussions and seminars, and lectures are applied. The course also includes proficiency training, simulation, and a certification course for a structured treatment. The number of physical meetings are at most 5 days/7.5 credits excluding introduction and examination. The course starts with a scheduled introduction and with group discussions in the computer platform PingPong. The working method aims to train a scientific approach through active knowledge acquisition, problem-solving, critical analysis and reflection, and training the ability of oral and written presentation.
Examination
Assessment of the students' ability to communicate and draw conclusions takes place continuously during the course. This course is examined according to the following Individual written examination Individual assessment of placement supported by an evaluation form Compulsory parts of the course: All seminars and participation in the compulsory parts contribute to the achievement of the aims of the course. - Participation in PingPong discussions and study assignments - Seminar - Proficiency training - Simulation - Placement including field study at a call center For the Pass grade, compulsory parts and the examination should be graded with, at least, the Pass grade. For a grade Pass with distinction, compulsory parts should be graded with the Pass grade and the examination graded with a Pass with distinction. In case of absence from compulsory parts, it is up to the student to discuss consequences of the absence with the course coordinator. Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions A student without an approved result after three examinations can be offered to take the course once more. However, there are at most six examination opportunities for each course. Examination times are announced at the beginning of the course. During the placement, a continuous assessment of the students' achievements takes place. Half-time and final assessment should be conducted. Professional supervisors provide a basis for assessment according to the evaluation forms. For students at the risk of failure, a written plan should be set up, at the latest at the mid-way assessment, by the course coordinator together with a professional supervisor. The student should have satisfied the requirements of the component parts in order to get a Pass grade in the entire course. Grades are assigned by examiner. Failed clinical education may be done once more.
