Objectives

The aim of the course is to enhance knowledge regarding specific nursing and medical treatment of patients in the perioperative caring process. Independently be able to apply and integrate theoretical knowledge from ethical, multicultural and pedagogical perspectives. On completion of the course, the student should independently be able to preoperatively assess the patient's specific nursing needs and ASA classification. discuss and argue for the choice of an appropriate anaesthesia form, including drugs, from an individual-centered perspective, and with regard to the surgery. identify, discuss and analyse specific needs, risks and complications in anaesthesia, assess the patient's specific post-operative nursing needs, address and evaluate, discuss and evaluate current research and evidence-based nursing, and assess the relation between science and proven experience in specific nursing and medical science in anesthetic care

- ASA classes - difficult airway - preoperative assessment - preoperative fast - preoxygeneration - Forms of anaesthesia - Rapid sequence induction (RSI) - pain - ventilation - Post operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) - pharmacodynamics/kinetics - metabolism/fluid balance/blood substitute - perioperative supervision - thermal measures Anaesthesia for; - elderly - obese people - pregnant women with a gender and cultural perspective Anaesthesia in connection with; - general surgery - laparoscopic surgery - obstetrics/gynaecology - Orthopaedics

Teaching methods

The course is both campus and web-based (distance) The working method aims to train a scientific approach through active knowledge acquisition, problem-solving, critical analysis and reflection, and training the ability of oral and written presentation. Therefore, the following parts may be included in this course : Scheduled course introduction, cohort groups and group discussions in the computer platform PingPong, seminars, lectures, proficiency training, simulations, placement. The course also includes individual works, and works in groups. Written exercises that are solved independently and a seminar The distance education is IT-based and is characterised by independent and collaborative learning. Different working methods such as individual study assignments, work in groups, virtual discussions and seminars and lectures are used. The number of physical hits is limited to at most 2 days/7.5 credits.

Examination

Individual, oral and written Compulsory parts of the course: - Course introduction - Seminars - Proficiency training - Simulation For a Pass grade, all subparts should be graded with a Pass, at least. For a Pass with distinction, all subparts should be graded with the grade Pass with distinction. In case of absence, it is up to the student to discuss consequences of the absence with the course coordinator.. Limited number of examinations A student without an approved result after three examinations can be offered to take the course once more. However, there are at most six examination opportunities for each course. Examination times are announced at the beginning of the course.
