Ability to take medical history and to perform a physical examination of a patient. Basic computer knowledge.
Objectives
The expected learning outcome of clinical rotation in primary care is for the student to acquire more in-depth knowledge of symptoms and diseases in an unselected population in primary care and a greater familiarity with family medicine. The course also aims to provide insight into the importance of good patient-doctor relations, and experience of working interprofessionally alongside other organisations active in and outside the healthcare domain.
Content
The clinical rotation/elective comprises 40 hours duty per week at one or several primary health care centres in Stockholm County Council. An individual schedule is made with auscultation at the primary health care centres. Time is given for studies of literature and internet searches.
Teaching methods
Participation/auscultation in daily clinical activities at the primary health care centres. The student is required to study the course literature and write log book/reports. Compulsory attendance Attendance to all clinical duties as suggested by the supervisor is required. Any absence should be reported to the supervisor/secretary. The supervisor decides how the student should compensate for failure to attend.
Examination
(1) A log book should be written by the student and has to be presented to the supervisor. The log book should include relevant information about the patients encountered each day. (2) The supervisor will decide upon one or more themes that the student has to explore more in detail and write a report on (e.g. my most interesting cases, literature reviews). This report has to be presented no less than 5 days before the end of the rotation in family medicine.
Other directives
The course will be evaluated in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education.
