Clinical Rotation - Urology, 6 credits

• Excellent knowledge in English equivalent to 550 TOEFL credit points. • Three years of studies in medicine • Ability to take medical history and assess the physical status of a patient • Basic computer skills • Passed course in internal medicine in the Physician Programme or the equivalent

• Recognise, describe, explain and assess common symptoms and clinical findings at common and important diseases and trauma in urology. • Know which diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic methods that are available. • Diagnose and establish a treatment plan for common health problems in the area of urology • Be familiar with the multi-disciplinary and multiprofessional nursing chain in the area urology. • Reflect on aspects of professional development during the course.

The clinical rotation includes 40 hours of duty a week on the teaching hopsital with placings within different units of urological clinic. An individual timetable is established with auscultations on various types of clinics, wards, operating rooms and other units such as urodynamic investigations and palliative unit. Time is allocated for literature studies and Internet use.

The rotation takes place under continuous supervision by physicians at the clinic. The student prepares herself in view of patient meetings through literature studies.

The supervisor discusses patient cases with the student and assesses his/her basic knowledge and problem-solving ability. The supervisor gets reports from doctors concerning the student's activities and clinical skills. The student writes a log book of his/her activities. Compulsory attendance: Attendance is compulsory in all clinical activities. The supervisor decides how absence is compensated. The rotation takes place under continuous supervision by physicians at the clinic.

Examination The examiner may, with immediate effect, interrupt a student's clinical placement (or equivalent) if the student demonstrates such serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitude that patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is at risk. If a clinical placement is interrupted in this way the student is deemed to have failed that element and to have used up one clinical placement opportunity. In such cases, an individual action plan should be set up stating which activities and tests are required before the student is qualified for a new clinical placement on the course. Eligibility A student failing due to shortcoming in knowledge skills or attitudes, thus jeopardizing patient safety and/or trust in medical care, could be assigned to a new clinical placement only after having completed objectives set in the individual plan.
