Objectives

The aim of the course is to enhance knowledge regarding specific nursing and medical treatment of patients in intensive care. To theoretically, independently be able to apply and integrate knowledge towards a professional approach on the basis of ethical, multicultural and pedagogical aspects. On completion of the course, the student should be able to · describe and reflect on specific nursing, medical care and treatment strategies in respiratory, circulatory and renal failure · describe and reflect on specific nursing, medical care and treatment strategies in sepsis and sepsis-induced organ dysfunction. · describe and reflect on specific nursing of a patient with hemodynamic treatment. . describe and reflect on specific nursing and supervision of a patient with advanced respiratory supportive measures. · understand and reflect on specific nursing of intensive care patients and their family, so also regarding environmental factors, psychological reactions, communication and aftercare, and care at the end of life. · understand the implication of general and regional anaesthesia. · demonstrate knowledge and insight in current research and evidence-based nursing, and discuss the relationship between science and proven experience in specific nursing and medical science in intensive care

Content

- specific nursing and treatment strategies in respiratory, circulatory, and renal failure. - specific nursing and treatment strategies in poisoning conditions. - infection panorama in the intensive care. - specific nursing and treatment strategies in sepsis and sepsis-induced organ dysfunction and dissiminated intravasal coagulation (DIC). - hemodynamic treatment, inotropic drugs. - respiratory supportive measures, such as invasive and non-invasive treatment. - general and regional anaesthesia, perioperative assessment and supervision, and drugs. - diseases in the abdominal organs, pancreatitis, abdominal compartment syndrome and abdominal aorta aneurysm. - the brain death concepts and organ donation. - nutrition, treatment strategies and fluid balance. - IVA delirium, IVA memory, family, aftercare.

Teaching methods

Working forms The course is both campus and web-based (distance) The working method aims to train a scientific approach through active knowledge acquisition, problem-solving, critical analysis and reflection, and training the ability of oral and written presentation. The course consists of lectures and student-activating teaching and working methods (individual, in groups and in seminars) on the basis of a problem-based approach. Written exercises that are solved independently and a seminar The distance education is i IT based and is characterised by independent learning. Different working methods such as individual study assignments, work in groups, virtual discussions and seminars and lectures are used. The number of physical hits is limited to at most 2 days/7.5 credits. Compulsory parts of the course - Cohort groups - Seminars - Proficiency training In case of absence, it is up to the student to discuss consequences of the absence with the course coordinator..

Examination

Examinations consist of an individual written examination and examination seminars. For a Pass grade, all parts should be graded with at least a Pass. For the grade Pass with distinction, all parts should be graded with the grade Pass with distinction. Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions A student without an approved result after three examinations can be offered to take the course once more. However, there are at most six examination opportunities for each course. Examination times are announced at the beginning of the course.
