Specific entry requirements

General admission requirements.

Objectives

On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to:
- in general terms define and describe the cognitive-psychological subject area.
- Account for and discuss central theories and models within cognitive psychology and relate these to different everyday phenomena and application fields.
- Account for and discuss how principles of learning psychology can be used to influence the behaviour.
- Account for and discuss cognitive functions such as intelligence, memory, languages, decision making, attention and perception.
- Account for and discuss the connection between emotion and cognition.

Content

The course provides general psychological knowledge of human beings from a cognitive perspective. The course intends to give a selection of the different central subject areas that cognitive psychology treats such as for example memory (in . amnesia), learning, perception, intelligence, attention, language, decision making, and how emotion and cognition interact. Focus is also placed on connections to relevant application fields in logopedics.

Teaching methods

The teaching consists of lectures and seminars, where applied exercises may be included.

Examination

Individually written take-home examination.

The take-home exam must be submitted by the date decided by the course coordinator. If student for some reason can not hand in the examination on time, contact should be made with the course coordinator no later than two days before the deadline. The course coordinator can, in special circumstances, give the student an exemption of no more than two weeks for submission of the take-home exam. If the take-home exam has not been submitted by the regular last submission date or the exception date, the exam is not accepted. The course coordinator should in consultation with the Director of studies decide on renewed take-home exam or other examination format.

Transitional provisions

Examination may take place according to the previous list of literature during a period of one and a half year after the renewal of the list of literature. Examination will be provided during a period of three years after possible shut-down of the course.

Other directives

The course is given in full by the Department of Psychology at Stockholm University, this is also where all teaching of the course takes place.

This course replaces the part General Psychology in the earlier course syllabus of the course psychology 1, 2LG002.

Course evaluation will be held according to guidelines by the Board of Higher Education and will be web-based or take place through mentometer buttons.

Literature and other teaching aids

Articles corresponding to about 50 pages will be distributed at the beginning of the course.
