Specific entry requirements
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to:
- Transcribe and analyse linguistic and non-linguistic interaction regarding differences and similarities and variation between variables such as sex, age, activities and context
- Reflect on theoretical and methodological aspects related to conversation analysis and linguistic interaction
Content
During the course, the student acquires theoretical knowledge of the linguistic interplay between individuals and familiarity with different methods of analysis of linguistic interaction. Paralinguistic aspects (voice and non-verbal communication) are discussed.
Teaching methods
Lectures, group discussions and teacher-supervised exercises.
Compulsory attendance at all activities unless otherwise stated.
The course coordinator decides how absence from compulsory course elements can be made up.
Study results cannot be reported until the student has participated in compulsory course elements or compensated for any absence in accordance with instructions from the course coordinator.
Absence from a compulsory course element could mean that the student can not retake the element until the next time the course is offered.
Examination
The examination consists of continuous individually written assignments and a transcriptional assignment.
To pass the course, attendance at compulsory parts is also required. If absent from a compulsory course element, the student is responsible for contacting the course coordinator teacher for a supplementary assignment.
Transitional provisions
The course has been cancelled and was offered for the last time in the autumn semester of 2016. Examination will be provided until the autumn of 2018 for students who have not completed the course
Other directives
The course, as a whole, is given at the Department of Linguistics, Stockholm University. The course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines that are established by the Board of education and will mainly be web-based.

Additional literature on a maximum of 100 pages may be added according to the teacher's instructions
