On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to:

  • handle the basic terminology of descriptive statistics
  • interpret basic tables and diagrams
  • carry out simple descriptive statistical calculations as well as make correct interpretations of results

Content

The course gives the student the possibility to acquire basic knowledge in descriptive statistics such as different measures of central tendency, dispersion measures, correlation measures, standardisation (normal distribution) as well as basic probability theory. The student train skills in carrying out basic and descriptive statistical calculations, interpret basic tables and diagrams as well as how the recently acquired knowledge from the course can be applied to different issues relevant to speech and language pathologists.

Teaching methods

The teaching consists of both lectures and interactive seminars with practical and applied elements. Compulsory attendance is required for some teaching activities. Absence from a compulsory teaching activity can imply that the student can not attend this activity until next time the course be given. The Course Coordinator assesses whether- and if so how- absence from compulsory elements in the timetable can be compensated. Attendance/passed achievement on all compulsory elements in the course timetable is required for reporting of final final grade.

Examination

Written examination

The written examination is graded anonymously (using a identification code number for each student). Students who do not pass the written examination are entitled to five more examination occasions, the first within fourteen days of the notification of the exam result. The third examination is the following regular examination in the course. Each occasion the student participates in the same test counts as an examination. Submission of a blank exam paper is regarded as an examination. In case a student is registered for an examination but does not attend, this is not regarded as an examination.

Transitional provisions

Examination can be carried out according to an earlier literature list during a period of one year after the date of a renewal of the literature list. Examination will be provided during a period of two years after a possible closing of the course.

Other directives
