Specific entry requirements
To be eligible to advance to this course, students must have no more than 15 credits remaining from the previous term, and no credits remaining from any terms preceding this. The course thus assumes that all credits in statistics and research methods of preceding courses are completed.
Objectives
The aim of the course is for the student to deepen and develop her/his skills in psychological method.
On completion of the course, the students should be able to:
• with a high degree of independence plan, perform, interpret, and answer issues concerning multivariate analyses
• with a high degree of independence plan, perform, interpret, and answer issues concerning qualitative analyses
Content
On part 1 of the course knowledge and skills in multivariate statistical analyses (e.g. regression analysis and analysis of variance) are rehearsed/consolidated/deepened.
On part 2 of the course, qualitative methods are treated and the student is given an opportunity to plan, carry out and interpret the results of qualitative analyses.
Teaching methods
Lectures, laboratory sessions and scientific report writings.
Examination
Achieved learning objectives are examined through (a) a written exam at the end of the course that consists of two separate examinations (examination 1: multivariate statistical analysis and examination 2: qualitative method) where examination 1 and examination 2 both can be given the grade Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG). These two examinations are written at the same occasion. At failure on one of these examinations this part can be examined separately at a retake. (b) two written assignments/reports: Report 1 regarding multivariate statistical analysis and report 2 regarding qualitative method. Report 1 is written individually and Report 2 is written either individually or in groups. Both of these written assignments can receive one of the grades Fail (U), Pass (G) and Pass with distinction (VG).
For the grade Pass (G) on the whole course at least the grade Pass on all four above described examination parts are required. To pass with distinction (VG) on the whole course the grade Pass with distinction in at least two of the four examination parts is required.
Grading criteria for all four examination parts are informed before the start of the course.
Transitional provisions
The interim regulations follow KI's local guidelines. Courses that have been discontinued or thoroughly revised, or which have been given a radically new reading list, will offer two additional examinations (to the ordinary examination) on the former content and literature during a period of one year from the date of discontinuation or revision.
Other directives
Course evaluation takes place according to KI's local guidelines. Students are informed of the results and any measures taken on the course website.
