Specific entry requirements
Passed results from semester 1-3 of the Psychology programme consisting 90 credits and at least 15 credits from semester 4.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- in a well structured written report demonstrate advanced knowledge concerning a selected issue within the psychological field
- form and answer a scientific question within the scientific field of psychology
- show skills in literature search and how to enter references correctly
- act in a scientific manner and to base arguments on the literature used
Content
The course constitutes an advanced study within the scientific field of psychology from an issue that is formulated in advance in consultation with examiner. Fields can be e g cognitive psychology, social psychology, psychology of emotions, differential psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, clinical psychology, organizational psychology, the history of ideas of the psychology and more.
The course is predominantly based on own studies of scientific literature, and independent writing. Literature search, scientifically writing, good research practice and citation and reference technique are included in the course.
Teaching methods
The teaching starts with a teacher-supervised introduction. After that, the student alone acquires information through literature searches in appropriate databases and search of relevant literature and own studies and analysis of the material based on a self-chosen issue that has been identified in consultation with examiner. The participants of the course communicate via a web-based teaching platform. Forms for supervision can vary (supervision may be given via meetings, email or web-based teaching platform). Written reflection sheet that support at work process can occur according to study instructions. The report will be assessed from established assessment criteria and is analyzed by URKUND (KI's system to counteract plagiarism and cheating).
Examination
In the course, the grades are Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG). The course is examined through a written report, that can give one of the grades U, G or VG and feedback of another student's report that can give one of the grades U or G. Instructions and grading criteria for the report are received by the beginning of the course.
In the event of a student obtaining a Fail grade on the written report, possibility to supplementary completion is given. Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five more occasions.
Transitional provisions
The transition rules follow KI's local guidelines for examination.
Other directives
Course evaluation takes place according to KI's local guidelines. Written tasks will be submitted via the computer system URKUND according to decision of the Programme Committe.
