Specific entry requirements
Passing the previous term's "Psykoterapi under handledning 4" ("Psychotherapy under supervision 4") course is a prerequisite for participation in this course.
Objectives
Knowledge and understanding
- - demonstrate an understanding of the dynamics and content of the psychotherapy process from the beginning of treatment through to the termination.
Skills and abilities
- - demonstrate a deeper ability to account, both orally and in writing, for treatment measures and interventions, the patient's reactions and development, and the interpersonal interaction between the psychotherapist and the patient
- - demonstrate deeper skills for critically evaluating pre-arranged treatment plans and treatment outcomes
Values and attitudes
- - understand the importance of evaluating and reflecting on the development of their own psychotherapeutic role and identity
- - understand the need to reflect on alternative possible treatments on the basis of the limitation of the applied method and the patient's circumstances
Content
The course is divided into two modules.
Psychotherapy under supervision 5A, 1.0 hp
This module is given during term 5, and consists of a written summary in which one of the student’s psychotherapies is described so that different diagnostic, theoretical and technical issues are illustrated.
Psychotherapy under supervision 5B, 2.0 hp
This module is given during term 6, and deals with diagnostic, theoretical and technical aspects of psychotherapy. Different psychotherapeutic processes are described through the students’ psychotherapy summaries being presented orally and discussed during seminars.
Teaching methods
Individual written work under supervision from a clinical supervisor, oral presentation and seminars.
Examination
Module 1 is examined by evaluating a written psychotherapy summary, and module 2 is examined through an oral presentation of the psychotherapy summary.
Students who fail will be given five additional opportunities to sit the examination. All teaching is mandatory. In the event of absence of no more than 20%, students will be given substitute tasks for those instances of teaching that they have missed. Students will not pass the course in the event of more than 20% absence. Students who have not achieved a pass grade due to levels of absence can take the module again the next time the course is given.

Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.
Each student must submit confirmation from his or her employer demonstrating that the applicant has been employed on a part-time basis with psychotherapeutic work tasks in psychiatric care or equivalent duties during the term in question.
