Specific entry requirements

Passing the previous term’s “Vetenskapsteori, forsknings- och utvärderingsmetoder i psykoterapi 1” (“Scientific Theory, Research and Evaluation Methods in Psychotherapy 1”) course is a prerequisite for participation in this course.

Objectives

Knowledge and understanding - describe different designs for psychotherapy research - describe quantitative and qualitative methods for psychotherapy research - describe the research process, from idea to report Skills and abilities - account for and reflect on findings from national and international psychotherapy research - be able to problematise whether an issue within the field can be investigated in a scientific manner Evaluations and attitudes - discuss controversial issues and debates within psychotherapy research - account for ethical guidelines for research within the field of psychotherapy

Content

- the various stages of the research process, from idea to completed report - the choices faced by the researcher at various stages of the research process, and the different consequences of these choices - methods for establishing certainty in measurements and opportunities for generalisation - ethical guidelines for research and development work

Teaching methods

Teaching takes place in the form of seminars, lectures and group exercises.

Examination

The course is examined in the form of written group work, which is reported on and presented orally. In order to pass the course, students must participate actively in the work involving the coursework, pass the coursework and have reported on an element of the coursework at a seminar. Students who fail will be given five additional opportunities to sit the examination. All teaching is mandatory. In the event of absence of no more than 20%, students will be given substitute tasks for those instances of teaching that they have missed. In the event of more than 20% absence, the course cannot be passed. Students who have not achieved a pass grade due to levels of absence can take the module again the next time the course is given.

Transitional provisions

An examination will be made available for a period of one year in the event of the course being discontinued or a new course syllabus being introduced.

Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.
