Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- identify and delimit a problem independently as well as formulate a research question relevant for the subject audiology
- plan, carry out, compile, draw conclusions and present the results of an own research study orally and in writing in the form of a scientific manuscript written in either Swedish or English and intended for publication within given time frames
- demonstrate advanced ability to search and review, evaluate and use relevant information from a scientific perspective critically as well as discuss new facts, phenomena and issues with different groups
- make assessments with regard to relevant scientific, social and ethical aspects
- have developed an understanding of research ethics and reflected around research-ethical dilemmas and apply this in an own research study
- demonstrate an understanding of current research and development work and knowledge of the relationship between science and proven experience and its importance for the professional practice
- give constructive criticism of the thesis of a fellow student as opponent at a seminar
- show the skills required to participate in research and development work
Content
The student should independently, with consultative supervision, carry out a qualitative or quantitative study including all components in research process: literature search, preparation of issues, data collection, data processing, interpretation and presentation. The study should be carried out and the manuscript is written individually and in either Swedish or English. The extent and the quality of the study should correspond to an article intended for a scientific journal within the audiological field. The report is presented, and is reviewed at an examination seminar.
Teaching methods
The teaching includes literature studies, seminars and independent project work under supervision.
Examination
To pass the course, an approved scientific report as well as an oral presentation and defense of the study is required. Furthermore, the student should publicly discuss on another student's thesis. At larger deficiencies, the grade failed is given. Minor deficiencies can possibly be corrected after the instructions of examiner.
Transitional provisions
Examination may take place under the previous reading list during a period of one year after the renewal of the reading list. Examination will be provided during a period of two years after a close-down of the course.
