Specific entry requirements

Swedish certificate as a nurse and 60 credits in nursing (20 p for each A -, B and C level).

Objectives

The course aim is to enhance knowledge and skills within nursing to independently be able to apply and integrate specific nursing with medical care and treatment in the perioperative care. The specialist nurses should develop their skill in perioperative meeting with patients. On completion of the course, the student should independently be able to - carry out preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative talks with patients based on the perioperative nursing model - identify, assess, plan and carry out individually adjusted care based on the perioperative talks - evaluate and reflect on the implemented care - identify concepts and reflect on models and theories in the perioperative nursing process - start from a nursing theory in the meeting with the patient - reflect over and apply evidence-based knowledge in the perioperative care

Teaching methods

The course is both campus and web-based (distance). The working method aims at training a scientific approach through active knowledge acquisition, problem-solving, critical analysis and reflection, and training the ability to oral and written presentation. Therefore, the following parts are used in this course: Scheduled course introduction, cohort groups and group discussions in the computer platform PingPong, seminars, lectures and field studies. The course includes individual work as well as work in groups. The distance education is IT-based and is characterised by independent and collaborative learning. Different working methods such as individual study assignments, work in groups, virtual discussions and seminars and lectures are used. The number of physical hits is limited to at most 3 days/7.5 credits.

Examination

Seminar Evidence-based perioperative care. Individual written examination assignment and a seminar in perioperative nursing. Compulsory parts - Course introduction - Seminars - Lectures - Field studies In case of absence in compulsory parts, the student is obliged to make an agreement with the supervisor about complementary assignments. For a Pass grade, all subparts should be graded with a Pass, at least. For the grade Pass with distinction, the largest part should be graded with a Pass with distinction. Limited number of examinations A student without an approved result after three examinations can be offered to take the course once more. However, there are at most six examination opportunities for each course. Examination times are announced at the beginning of the course.
